This question has most likely been asked hundreds of times but i must be having a dumb day because i cant seem to understand the replies to other posts  Roll Eyes

My question is, when switching from an ADSL plan to an ADSL2+ plan do you need to wait till the end of the current cycle before it switches over?
From what i gather from other replies the speed can be switched in the current cycle but the download limit will have to wait for the next cycle.

Is this correct or have i completely misunderstood  Huh

Oh and thank you so much for finally bringing ADSL2+ availability to my area, and at the exchange that's only 800m from my house  Grin

Edit: I have been doing some more researching (my knowledge when it comes to ADSL and ADSL2+ it sadly lacking) and i was looking at the details of my exchange and the differences between ADSL2+ and ADSL2+ Extra.
Now from what i have found i think that the differences between the two types of plan are that ADSL2+ plans are on Primus infrastructure and ADSL2+ Extra is on Telstra infrastructure.

I received a letter in the mail from Iprimus telling me that,
"iPrimus recently expanded it's ADSL2+ coverage and is excited to announce that we have pre-qualified your home and have confirmed that it is capable of receiving super-fast ADSL2+ broadband from iPrimus."
However according to www.adsl2exchanges.com.au the current providers on my exchange (The Queenscliff Exchange) are Telstra ADSL1 and Telstra ADSL2+.

Does this mean that i am eligible to get the ADSL2+ plans or do i have to get one of the ADSL2+ Extra plans?

I was contemplating switching from our Intense 12 plan (which we always run over the limit for) to the ADSL2+ Serious which would mean paying only an extra $10 dollars per month however if i need to get one of the Extra plans (I think the Family one is the same as the ADSL2+ Serious) it would mean paying an extra $30 which is not an option for me.

If somebody could clarify this for me it would be much appreciated.

Alright, i posted on the whirlpool forum and received a reply from a helpful chap called Mark.
Everything seems clear to me now, i just need to call sales staff to determine what plans are available on my phone line.

Only the 2+ Extra plans are available from your exchange.

We can do it either way. Instantly or on your billing cycle.

Speed changes on Primus are instant, on Optus will occur within a few hours and on Telstra can take a few working days.

Thanks for the Reply Angus, i called Sales and they told me the same thing  Cry
It's a shame really, the way the letter was worded made it sound as if it was Iprimus who enabled it in the exchange and not Telstra and unfortunately the Extra plans are much more expensive.

I was going to switch from my Intense 12 plan to the ADSL2+ Serious plan but now i think I'll have to stretch my budget and try the ADSL2+ Extra Light, it's more than i would like to pay but being the internet junky that i am it would seem i cant resist  Tongue Hopefully i dont run over the 7GB Peak limit. If i do i might have to try Internode's Home-TwoPlus-25 plan but i have been with Primus for a long time and would prefer to stay with them.

Oh that brings me to another question, if i run over the Peak limit will that drop me back to dial up speed even during the off peak time?

Hopefully Iprimus will install their own DSLAM into the Queenscliff exchange in the not too distant future, i know quite a few people who would switch to IPrimus in an instant if they could get the normal ADSL2+ plans.

No. You only get rate limited during the period where you have exhausted your usage.
So if you run out of peak data, you get rate limited during peak hours only.

Ok that's good to hear, thank's for all your help.
I have now switched to the ADSL2+ Extra Light plan so I'll see how that goes.

Cheers, Bane

Hello again  Wink

I spoke with a guy from sales and switched our plan to the ADSL2+ Extra Light plan, he said it should be switched within 24 hours but its been about 2 days so far and still no change.
Just wondering if someone could inform me of any progress etc.

[(Your line speed is [*1.3 Mbps*] (1304 kbps).
Your download speed is [*163 KB/s*] (0.16 MB/s). )]

Which is what i got on my old Intense 12 plan.

I have tried resetting the modem but nothing changes.

Thanks again.

With Telstra it typically takes from 1 to 3 business days for your line codes (connection speed) to be updated, but that is only if your line is already connected to a 2+ caipable port.

If I had to guess I would say it will be done late tomorrow.

Hmm, it's been 3 more days now and it still hasn't changed  Undecided
Is something not going to plan or is it just taking longer than expected?

Thanks, Bane

3 more days later and still no ADSL2+  Embarrassed.
I called customer service and spoke to them like Angus suggested and it turned out that Telstra had withdrawn our order due to some supposed incompatibility issue with our phone line or something (my father spoke with them)
The person he spoke to said they were having trouble sorting it out with Telstra (which i completely understand  Wink). On Friday the 14th i think it was we received a phone call saying that it should be fixed by that night but still nothing has changed.
Is Primus still having issues with Telstra or is there some other issue now?
Do i need to call customer service and talk to them again?

Thanks

Unfortuantely, the weekend has come along. I can see that another SQ was requested, so perhaps a day or two after the weekend we would have a better idea of the progress.

Your upgrade has been scheduled by our Wholesaler for the 20th (Tomorrow). Assuming it all goes well (it should), you should be on a 2+ connection that evening.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Is this a decent speed for being approximately 1280 meters of cable away from the exchange (according to http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au)

Cheers
