I've been waiting (im)patiently for some time now for Iprimus to enable ADSL2+ in the Brisbane CBD exchanges - most specifically Charlotte which I live next to!

My understanding is that these were some of the first ADSL1 exchanges enabled by Iprimus with their own equipment and as such they use Nokia DSLAMs that do not support ADSL2+.

Is there any info available on when this situation is likely to change?

Do you know if Optus offer ADSL2+ there? We might be able to offer ADSL2+ through Optus equipment, I would suggest calling Sales to see if it's available there. (131 789)

So long as you're on Telstra Rebill you can be ported to an Optus DSLAM and have ADSL2+.  If you're on a PrimusDSLAM then putting you over to Optus will mean a loss of phone number as you cant do local number portability at this stage...

Charlotte only has a Nokia installed....  I haven't heard of them installing a Marconi in there yet...

Email your username over to wpenquiry@primustel.com.au and we can check to see what we can do...

I'm still (im)patiently awaiting a reply guys!

I thought this forum had been set up to assist customers - looks like it has been a bit of a waste of time and effort!

Why are my queries being totally ignored?

Surely it can't be that hard to give me an answer!

Hey Johnthay

Sorry, Mick has been away (just got back)

Looks like you're on SSS on a Nokia.

You're options are;

1. Wait for the Nokia to be replaced with a Marconi or Ericsson DSLAM by Primus.
2. Cancel your SSS based ADSL1 Service, then signup for ADSL2+ with iPrimus on an Optus Wholesale service.

I'll check with the network planning guys, see if they know what the schedule for replacing the old Nokia DSLAMS is, I'm fairly sure they're getting rid of them all as soon as they can.

It's undesirable for us to keep the Nokia DSLAMS for several reasons, one is that you can't get replacement parts for them anymore, so we can only fix hardware with spares that we have. The other is that they're much, lower density than the Marconi or Ericsson DSLAMS we use now (they're 8ports per card, compared to 60 ports per card, and the cards are roughly the same physical size)

Cheers,

Rory

Rory

Thanks

As long as the anticipated upgrade time is reasonable I am happy to stay as is. I await your advice.

Hey Rory

Can you give the network planning guys a wake up call?

Bump!

Obviously Primus wants me to move to another provider. I cannot believe that you are unable to provide ADSL2+ to me in the CBD of Australia's third largest city and more than that cannot even give me an update on progress.

Thanks Lip F. Can you give me some more details please? Does it involve a change of phone number? Do we stay on the Primus network or does it involve moving to Optus?

It shouldn't involve changing number but it will involve a ULL migration onto the Optus DSLAM - 2+ migration takes around 17 days for completion and there will be some downtime.

Thanks Lip F. Not sure that I'm prepared to go that route. Can you check what plans Primus has in place to replace the Nokia DSLAMs. From earlier comments by Rory it appears that for technical reasons they are living on borrowed time!

I don't when those Nokia's will go - sorry mate.
With the Optus DSLAM's it's not 17 days of down time (I just realised how it read) it should only be the date of crossover - unplug and re-plug.
You can still get the iPrimus 2+ plans on any of our 2+ suppliers.

Thanks Lip F. Under what circumstances would a change of home phone number be required?

Any update on when Nokia DSLAMs in Charlotte (Brisbane) exchange are due to be replaced?

Contacted LiveChat today and was told my only current ADSL2+ option was to move to Telstra equipment. Cost of that is prohibitive!
